With much occasion D&S recently hosted a major event to officially inaugurate its impressive new Tatu Distribution Centre. As the distribution business has grown this significant investment was driven by the increasing congestion at the Dundori Road warehousing facilities and a fresh start had become essential.

The Tatu City site was selected as being ideal for the purpose being in a readily accessible undeveloped location outside Nairobi as well as being an excellent living and working environment. The project design was awarded to industrial architects Boogertman and Partners who originated the striking design that is being widely admired for its aesthetics and efficacy. Project managed by MaceYMR, the construction contract for the 10,000m² warehouse and office structure was awarded to Ark Construction with the building frame and cladding provided by Steel Structures, all parties doing an excellent job in completing the building on budget and on time in just over a year. UK logistics consultant Ken Porter was also invaluable in guiding the analysis of requirements and design. The result is most impressive and there are probably few more advanced distribution centres in the region. Overall responsibility for the facility is under Supply Director Anthony Wangondu with Henry Davis leading the project management and also tasked with daily management assisted by the team leaders Maina Mbatia, Stephen Mugo, Mercy Wanyoike, Evelyn Wainaina and Brenda Muhati.

The opening event was well attended by various D&S friends and partners as well as a number of staff and after guests were shown round the facility there were various speeches concluded by Group Chairman Alec Davis. Special guest and old friend Naresh Mehta, who has been dealing with D&S for over 45 years, also said a few kind words about how the Company's has developed and achieved its success. The event concluded with the official opening of the facility by Mrs Christine Davis, wife of the Chairman, to the applause of all guests.
